The Concert Band is an instrumental ensemble that emphasizes performance of challenging literature written for band, or transcriptions from orchestral works. Repertoire includes selections of contemporary and traditional compositions. Students will further develop their musicianship through interpretation, trained hearing and response. Musicality, technique, phrasing and the ability to analyze form are major areas to be stressed. Students receive weekly small group lessons and are highly encouraged to seek private lessons with a faculty approved instructor.
The West Essex Band Boosters support both the Concert Band and Symphonic Winds ensembles in many ways. Here are some of them:
- Guest Conductors & Sectional Coaches – professional musicians and educators provide hands-on education, support and guidance for our students both on and off-campus,
- Senior Scholarships,
- Annual Music In Our Schools Dinner for both High School and Middle School Band students,
- Concert Hospitality and Refreshments, after all High School Concert Band and Symphonic Winds performances
